Staying Trendie in a World That Wants You to Be Trendy.
On living and building a life on taste over trends.
I’ve had a lot of new faces following Trendie recently. So I thought I would introduce myself, and a little bit more about what Trendie is beyond just enjoying a good glass of wine on a random wednesday.
Also, just so it’s clear there really is a real person, living a real life with a real point of view behind it all.
Hi, I'm India.
I'm 25, half French, half English, and currently living and building The Trendie Life. Which is really just my own life, built around my love for travel, culture, creating things, meaningful experiences and honestly, just having a good time.
I never actually set out to build a brand at all. I set out to build a life I enjoyed living. One where I didn’t have to choose between being ambitious and enjoying it. One where I could live and build at the same time without needing to justify it.
Simply, I’ve just always refused to live in a way that didn’t feel true to me.
There is no blueprint for this kind of life. It’s difficult to explain. And not everyone will get it, and that’s okay.
For a long time, I didn’t have the words for the way I was living and building, mostly because instinct alone doesn’t quite translate. And, instead of wasting valuable time trying to justify why I felt like I needed to be living to be building, and building to be living, I chose to create the language, the standard and the name for a life I wish existed.
Not just for myself, but so the ones who did get it could use it too. Because I needed something that gave me permission to have freedom without sacrificing my ambition.
And I’m really quite glad that I put myself into rooms that made me notice early that freedom without ambition is just as hollow as ambition without freedom. Both are forms of losing yourself, just in different directions.
My success metric is staying Trendie in a world that wants you to be trendy. In other words, leading with your taste over trends. Not chasing someone else’s version of success that might not be your own.
True luxury to me is knowing what’s true to you, having the freedom to choose it and trusting yourself enough to lead with it. It’s having the freedom and the conviction to leave when you want to, and stay when you don’t. It’s having a local take you around their city. It’s having a table full of people you love. It’s speaking to the person next to you and learning something. It’s going back to the restaurant you really enjoyed. It’s staying for one more because you can. It’s always leaving room for spontaneity on purpose.
Which is really just the good life - choosing to find ways to live richly in your life as it is, and experiencing it fully without losing yourself in the process.
I’ve come to call this Tasteful Hedonism®. The art of choosing to live hedonistically, but tastefully. Spontaneously, but intentionally. Living fully without losing yourself. Not choosing between ambition and enjoyment, but refusing to separate them in the first place.
To follow your own trend, your own standard, your own taste when everything is trying to pull you towards everything but that.
Stay Trendie x
P.s. here’s to 20,000 people following Trendie on Instagram.
I can’t quite wrap my head around it, when this was genuinely all for fun.
